This anime needs no introduction, just the name Pokemon is enough. Remember the hype created by the launch of Pokemon Go?
Pokemon has a whole anime series as well as many movies like Pokemon: Mewtwo strikes back. However, the production of this anime began a year after the title came out for Gameboy in 1996 making it one of the best anime based on video games.
Devil May Cry

Devil May Cry certainly has a highly interactive fanbase. Where some anime fans believe the show unnecessarily focuses on interpersonal relationships and demand for a straight-up demon murder anime the other half of the fan base simply love watching more of the vengeful demon hunter Dante’s adventures.
Its fan base may have a divided opinion about the anime however the games based on Devil May Cry manages to unify its fans.
Steins;Gate

What originated as one of the best “visual novel,” a highly sought after style of PC title in Japan has gone on to become one of the most-watched infinitely-human sci-fi tale anime of all time. Although, in my opinion, Steins; Gate is so much more than any thoughtful sci-fi sagas.
The journey of a unique set of oddballs whose friendship literally transcends time is beautifully potrayed in the anime what’s more is you can also reminisce this journey in the video game

If you love badass heroines, here’s a way to follow the early adventures of a true lulu. Cassandra half religious-style inquisitor, half fighter) is a true Lulu and for those of you who love badass heroine animes, this is the one you do not want to miss.
The anime narrates the early journeys of Cassandra as she marches with her fellow Seekers to battle a mage-led conspiracy and overthrow the Divine, leader of a religious order.

Halo Legends is just like Devil May Cry as both anime share a divided fan base. They are even more similar as the video games of these anime have a unified fan base.
As an anime lover if you find yourself relinquishing the cutscenes of Halo then you will certainly love the video game as well.

The story of this anime shows the journeys of Advent Children as they follow the path of FF7 heroes following their victory over Sephiroth two years ago.
In the Final Fantasy VII video game you can play as the characters of Advent Children as well as the Sephiroth.

The game Viewtiful Joe has amazing graphics and insane gameplay but the anime narrates the title with so much more manic energy.

Dimensional Adventure Nu-Mamonja is a promotional anime based on the game where two monsters encounter fellow creatures and characters in a magical festival. The game begins on the night before the events of Chrono Trigger and you need to face various characters to make it to the festival.
Kirby: Right Back at Ya!

You can play as Kirby, a Star Warrior who takes it upon himself to protect a village from King Dedede, an evil monster-summoner, and his minions. Or you can watch the anime and enjoy watching the journey of Kirby. Or maybe do both. One thing is for sure, this is a top anime and game that you would not want to miss.

The Playstation game of Persona 4: The Animation also gives permission to the anime to use its characters and dialogue.
The anime version of Persona 4 has a slightly unique twist in comparison to the central mystery of the game, which was welcomed to positive reviews by fans as the prospect of an alternative perspective is quite appealing.
Ef: A Tale of Memories

This anime is based on one of the bestselling Japanese visual novel series, A Tale of Memories that narrates the stories of Hiro Hirono as he meets several prospective romantic interests he would encounter in the game.
This anime series delivers the authentic essence of animes where at first you are left puzzled, then you emotionally bond with the series, and finally, you cry for animated cartoon characters. Professional Tip: Go and cut onions or at least keep an onion around.

True anime fans make a compiling argument when they say that Digimon is just like Pokemon. And if you have watched or played both anime you too will see the resemblance.
Digimon did not gain international exposure until its owners decided to make some personal character developments after which the game turned anime became quite watchable.
Inazuma Eleven

This one is my personal favorite sports anime so don’t mind me if I take a few extra lines to describe this one. You will not find many games or anime that are based on sports but Inazuma Eleven paved a pathway for this exciting genre.
Inazuma Eleven was first launched as a soccer/football video game wherein all players have supernatural abilities that you will need to defeat unique opponents.
This football anime series is directly inspired by the game and shows the journey of Endou Mamoru’s football/soccer club where a group of underdogs is recruited and helps them reach their full potential. Personally, seeing my favorite character Shawn Frost come to life always gives me goosebumps.
Gungrave
Based on: Gungrave
Gungrave was initially launched as a third-person shooter PlayStation 2 game, had the developers had the chance to go back in time I’m sure they would have preferred not releasing the game. However, the below-par game led to the release of a hit anime series that shows the adventures of Brandon Heat and Harry MacDowell as they rise and fall through the ranks of a mafia crime syndicate.
It is not surprising that many people know about the anime Gungrave and not the PS2 game. A classic example of, “Everything happens for a reason.”
Tales of the Abyss
Based on: Tales of the Abyss
While most of the anime based on games would require you to play the name to understand the anime, Tales of the Abyss can be a standalone anime in itself. The anime has a total of 26 episodes that cinematographically narrate the chronicles Luke fon Fabre’s journey from pampered son of royalty to the prophesied “chosen one.”
