Hey, Black Ops Cold War fans! Probably nothing else beats the experience of playing this game with your friends, right! This is so especially after the Call of Duty franchise introduced the rare option to play split-screen multiplayer with varied modes. This allows you to get competitive and have lots of fun with your friends, more so if you have cold war aimbots.

However, setting up the split-screen multiplayer when playing Black Ops Cold War is a bit confusing. Though similar to the previous games, there are a few new hoops and a series of steps that Black Ops Cold War players need to follow.

First, you ought to have two separate Xbox Live accounts or PlayStation Network depending on your console. That’s not all, read on and you’ll find out everything you need to know about multiplayer Call of Duty’s Black Ops Cold War in split-screen.

How To Play Split-Screen Multiplayer In Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Step 1: Connect a Second Controller to Your Console

To begin with, get a second controller and sign in to an account on your console. You can sign in with a guest account only that you won’t be able to use it to play online; you’ll limit the game playability to offline modes only.

If you want to play online, ensure you sign in via the PlayStation or Xbox console live accounts. After that, you’ll need a separate Activision account to enable you to play online. You’re able to set up that account when you load up the Black Ops Cold War.

If after doing this you’re still struggling to get started, check and ensure that both players have added each other as friends on their networks. If that doesn’t work, restart the game and repeat the process.

Step 2: Set Your Orientation

After connecting the controllers, you need to adjust your split-screen settings. Black Ops Cold War allows players to adjust their screens either horizontally (screens will be stacked on top of each other) or vertically (screens will be side-by-side).

These orientation settings are found in the Graphics settings menu of the Cold War game. Always check for this adjustment before you commit to a multiplayer game since failure to do so can easily get you disoriented.

Step 3: Switch Between Online and Offline

On the main menu of the Cold War game, there are options to play Multiplayer, Campaign, Zombies, and Dead Ops Arcade. Further down the screen, some settings allow you to choose whether to play online or offline. You can easily toggle this with a single click on your controller.

As alluded to earlier, players require two accounts to play online but if you sign in via a guest account on the console you’ll only be able to play offline mode in split-screen.

You may want to first switch to offline mode to practice specific gunfights before switching to online. Offline mode also enables you to load into your preferred multiplayer lobby, one that’s hard to be filled with other players online.

Step 4: Pressing X/A to Join the Lobby Leader and Then Enter/Create a Lobby

Once you’re in a multiplayer lobby, check for a pop-up on the right side of the screen alerting you to sign in for split-screen. Just like the toggle for offline and offline, it takes just one click to switch to split-screen. That will add the player on the second controller to your game party automatically.

If you choose to game online, the rest of your lobby fills automatically upon selecting the match you want to play. If offline, you’ll need to load the game since it will be a bit empty. I recommend you choose a smaller map to compensate for that. After this, you should be set to get started with a split-screen multiplayer game of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

What to Know:

  • When playing an online split-screen multiplayer Cold War game with friends, you can’t host a party. Instead, ask your friend to host a private party, join them then follow the above steps to add your additional controllers.
  • You can play split-screen multiplayer both offline and online in Black Ops Cold War.
  • The split-screen mode doesn’t work on PC, so a console which is either an Xbox or PlayStation is mandatory.

Parting Shot…

Hope you’re now set to play split-screen multiplayer in Call of Duty’s Black Ops Cold War. This is the perfect time to start grinding it out for untold fun.
