What is Optus Sport?

Optus Sport is a premier live sports streaming website that has the rights to sporting events like Premier League, Women’s Super League, LaLiga, and other games on-demand and live.

It is a site that is focused on streaming Football events that are extremely popular and are known worldwide for their popularity.

But, there are many reasons as well why someone would like to watch out for Optus Sport’s alternatives because there are some great alternatives present.

Reason to look for sites like Optus Sport

Reason 1 – Expensive paid streaming site

Optus Sport is not a cheap streaming site by any means because the site has a subscription rate that it charges for people to access its stream, and that subscription rate starts from a whopping $24.99/month!

In comparison, ESPN Plus, the giant streaming service dedicated to sports, has its subscription rates from $10/month. That’s quite a gap in terms of price range between the two streaming sites.

Reason 2 – Football specific

Optus Sport is also specific to only football and no other sporting event, granted it has rights to some other events as well, but its main and primary focus is on football.

And even though Football does has a massive fan following across the globe, but it’s not the only sport that has a massive fan following, and you won’t be able to find those sports on Optus Sport’s website.

Reason 3 – Not a great customer service

Optus Sport has a terrible track record of having its customer satisfied with its product. There have been many complaints against Optus Sport regarding overpricing, cancelling the account, and many more.

Many people aren’t happy with how they have been treated by Optus Sport over the years and have tried to cancel their subscriptions due to it, and you can avoid all of these hassles by simply choosing its alternatives.

Best Optus Sport Alternatives

ESPN Plus

ESPN+ logo

As I have already mentioned, ESPN Plus as its an alternative in the reasons why you should look for alternatives to Optus Sport, so I might as well right a full sub-article around it as well.

ESPN Plus is a sports streaming website courtesy of the very famous and well-known brand in the world of sports, ESPN.

You get a number of different programs and originals, along with live streaming of many popular sports on ESPN.

What we liked about ESPN Plus

ESPN Plus does have a lot to offer on its streaming site. You get a lot more quality-focused originals than what you get from Optus Sport.

Along with that, ESPN Plus also provides a number of different sporting events and doesn’t just focus on one particular sport like Optus.

Plus, you also have the option of watching it across many different devices, and it’s convenient to use as well.

What we didn’t like about ESPN Plus

Even though ESPN Plus’s subscription rates are cheaper compared to what Optus has to offer, it still got a bump in its subscription rate this August.

Earlier you could get ESPN Plus for around $7/month, but now the price tag has risen to $10/month. That’s a whole three dollars hike, and for some people, that won’t be a big deal.

But, just know that this is by no means the final pricing point that ESPN Plus will have. It will continue to get more expensive over time with these three dollars hikes till the time it reaches around the $20 mark.

Why did we choose ESPN Plus as an Optus Sport alternative?

ESPN Plus is still a better streaming service than Optus Sport. It has more sports to cover, more events, better originals, and all of this packed in an attractive pricing point that you don’t get on Optus.

The services of ESPN Plus are also much more reliable than Optus, as it has fewer complaints posted by its customers, and the ones that are reported are quickly resolved by ESPN Plus.

Review and rating of ESPN Plus

ESPN Plus is a great service for people who are into watching sports because it is made by people who have been the very definition of sports for many decades.

If you are willing to pay the $25 subscription rate of Optus Sport, then you would be happy spending less amount and getting more reliable content from a better streaming service.

I would be rating ESPN Plus 4/5 stars.

FootyBite

FootyBite is also a website that I recently came across, and it has also become my go-to recommendation for people who are hunting for great alternatives to such streaming sites.

FootyBite, just like Optus Sport, is a dedicated site for football lovers, as you would get access to almost all the sporting events that happen in the world of football and more as well.

There are also many great things about FootyBite to discuss, so let’s get to it.

What we liked about FootyBite

The best thing about FootyBite is the fact that it is free to access! All the information available on FootyBite can be used for free, and you won’t have to shell out any dollar from your wallet!

This is a huge thing because you get almost all the sporting events that are playing live, which you can also see on Optus Sports, but over here, you will be able to watch it all for free on your laptop.

What we didn’t like about FootyBite

FootyBite is a video hosting website, so the content that you are watching on it is generally illegal because it streams directly from other websites that are illegally streaming the games.

And since the website is free, you also can’t expect other paid features such as multiple device viewing, news articles, and other products which you can get on paid streaming sites like Optus Sports and ESPN Plus.

Why did we choose FootyBite as an Optus Sport alternative?

The services of FootyBite are still more reliable than what you get on Optus Sports, which is saying something since one is a free website and the other one asks for a handsome subscription fee.

Plus, almost all the football sporting events you get to see on Optus Sports you will also be able to check out on Footybite as well, and you would be saving your hard-earned money as well.

Review and rating of FootyBite

FootyBite is a free streaming site, and it is one of the better free streaming sites right now; you will get to watch your favorite football matches along with other sports as well, so that is always a plus point.

You obviously can’t expect proper paid features because those features require a substantial amount of money which is something that these sites don’t have from the business that they do.

I would be rating Optus Sport 3.5/5 stars.

BBC iPlayer

BBC iPlayer is also a streaming service from the very popular media company BBC. BBC iPlayer has almost all the content that BBC has rights to, and that includes many sporting and football events.

You also get a handful of features when you use BBC iPlayer, some of which will attract people to choose its service, and some of them may not attract people so much; let’s discuss them all.

What we liked about BBC iPlayer

The great thing about BBC iPlayer is the fact that it is free to use! The entire streaming service and everything that it has to offer is free to access for its viewers.

So, you can easily just stream across the football matches that BBC has rights to and basically enjoy all that BBC produces or distributes on its website and not pay a single dime for watching it all!

What we didn’t like about BBC iPlayer

As amazing as it all sounds for BBC iPlayer, the one major flaw with BBC iPlayer is that it is only restricted to the UK and some countries of the EU. Elsewhere, you won’t be able to access the site and its content.

This is a big bummer point because it really does have a lot to offer in terms of content because BBC does produce a lot of great content.

Also, since it doesn’t own rights to all the major sporting events that happen across the world, so you won’t be able to watch them all on this website.

Why did we choose BBC iPlayer as an Optus Sport alternative?

BBC iPlayer is a free alternative to Optus Sport that many people don’t know about.

You get to watch and stream legal content from a well-known media networking company and have a great experience while you are on it.

It is truly a rare site that offers quality content for a rare pricing point that asks you nothing in terms of money from you. That makes it a great suggestion as an alternative to Optus.

Review and rating of BBC iPlayer

BBC iPlayer may not have all the sports in the world, but what it has to offer is also nothing shy of great content.

You also get to watch live content on the website, and all this for an ad-supported website sound great to many people.

If you are someone who is residing in the UK and hasn’t tried it yet, I urge you to give it a chance. I would be rating BBC iPlayer 3.5/5 stars.

Sling TV

Sling TV

Sling TV is also a streaming service that I recommend to a lot of people simply because it does offer a lot for the price that it is asking for.

Sling TV is the alternative not just for Optus Sports but also for those who are looking to cut their cable connection and switch to streaming but want to have those live channels as well.

There are plenty of more things to discuss about Sling TV, so let’s get into it.

What we liked about Sling TV

Sling TV offers a handful of live tv channels on its content library, and it is fairly simple to select its pack as well since it only has two packs, a blue pack and an orange pack, each targeting a different group of people with the channels they offer.

Both Orange and Blue pack costs around $35/month, which I know is more expensive than what you are paying for Optus Sports.

But Optus Sports is just a football-specific streaming site; over at Sling TV, you would get sports channels such as ESPN and Fox Sports, along with other prime-time television channels.

What we didn’t like about Sling TV

Sling TV is only available in the US right now, and so if you are residing somewhere else, chances are that you won’t be able to watch and use its services.

This is also a bummer because many people are looking to cut their cable connections because of how overpriced they are.

And Sling TV could be a great alternative to all of it, and much more convenient as well, which is something cable connection isn’t.

Why did we choose Sling TV as an Optus Sport alternative?

Sling TV is slightly more expensive than Optus Sport, but then again, you are welcomed with a lot more content than you can possibly get on Optus Sport.

You have many different sports channels when you are on Sling TV, and you also get a dozen of live tv channels as well, which is something you are not getting on Optus Sport.

Plus, since it is a live tv streaming service, you also get some features like parental control, DVR recording, and more when you use Sling TV.

Review and rating of Sling TV

Sling TV is not the exact alternative to Optus Sport, but you still get a lot of content on it when you choose its service.

It is a great website and streaming service that is affordable when it comes to the services it has to offer.

You can definitely check Sling TV out and see for yourself if it feels like it is deserving for your money.

I have recommended Sling TV a lot many times and would continue to do so. For that reason, I would be rating Sling TV 3.5/5 stars.

FirstRowSports

firstrowsports

First Row Sports is also a website that you can use to watch numerous different games online for free.

It is also a website that hosts a number of different links from the internet and embeds it on its website for people to have easier access to its content library and to be able to watch live sporting events for free on the internet.

You also get some decent features when you are on this site, so let’s talk about things that work and don’t work about First Row Sports.

What we liked about First Row Sports

The obvious plus point about First Row Sports is clearly the fact that it is free to use and access, you won’t have to spend any dollars to access its streams, and it also doesn’t ask for any signups to access its links.

It is a website that is fairly simple to use, and you don’t have to be internet savvy to know how to use a website like this.

You also get to watch many different sporting events as well when you are on its site.

What we didn’t like about First Row Sports

First Row Sports, since it is operating for free and doesn’t necessarily own any of the streaming rights of the games that it has to offer on its website, so you can expect it to work as a website that is a bit illegal.

You won’t get any premium features while you are on this website; in fact, everything about this website is very basic and very simple, which is also something that not a lot of people would appreciate.

Why did we choose First Row Sports as an Optus Sport alternative?

A lot of people don’t want to spend extra money on their entertainment, especially if it costs around $25/month and you only get to watch limited football streaming events.

That’s not the case with First Row Sports. Over here, you will be able to watch a number of different sporting events differing from sports to sports, and it is not just specific to Football, which is also a great point.

Review and rating of First Row Sports

First Row Sports is a website that you will have to try out on your own to see if it works for you or not since a lot of people aren’t comfortable with using a website that is only streaming illegal content.

If you are someone who is alright using a website that is in the grey area, and would allow you to watch your favourite sporting event, then you can easily try First Row Sports.

For those reasons, I would be rating First Row Sports 3/5 stars.

Bilasports

Bilasports is also a website that I recently came across, and it is also a free website where you can watch sports, mostly football, but also other popular sports for free on its website as it also embeds the links.

The great thing about Bilasports is that it tries to differentiate itself from other sites that also provide almost similar experiences to what Bilasports has to offer.

Let’s discuss these differentiating points.

What we liked about Bilasports

Bilasports is also a website that is free to access and use, which is always a great thing for any website to begin with.

But what differentiates Bilasports from other free streaming sites is that it also has articles that are written by the people who are working at Bilasports.

And these articles discuss a lot about predicting what is going to happen in the upcoming matches and also share previews of these upcoming matches as well.

What we didn’t like about Bilasports

Bilasports doesn’t have a lot of negative points, but you can always nitpick about such things. Since the website is free to use, you can expect a lot of pop-up ads on its homepage, and they can be annoying from time to time.

The website can also be a bit difficult to track down since there are a lot of websites that claim that they are Bilasports, and obviously, not all of them are Bilasports, so you always get confused using these proxy sites.

Why did we choose Bilasports as an Optus Sport alternative?

Bilasports is a free alternative to Optus Sport. You get a number of different sporting events, such as football, basketball, NHL, and others, on Bilasports for free.

But, the great thing about Bilasports is that it is taking an extra initiative to better its website, and you can see that extra effort in the articles that it uploads on its site for all the sporting events that it covers.

That is something that not a lot of streaming websites do, especially not the ones that are free of cost and actually are in the grey area of streaming content.

Review and rating of Bilasports

Bilasports is a website that you can very easily use, and you will have a great time while you are using it, simply because it is a website that is fun to use and does offer a lot of information to its viewers.

It feels like a website that is designed by people who are into the sports that they are streaming, and that shows in the content that it has to offer on its site because writing something like this takes some manpower.

And it is a feature that you usually see in paid streaming sites such as Optus Sports or ESPN Plus because it has the people to do something like this.

For this reason, I would be rating Bilasports 3.5/5 stars.

Peacock

peacock tv

Peacock is also a streaming service that is quite well-known as it is under NBC Universal, and the great thing about the streaming service is the fact that it also has NBC Sports available on it, as well.

This means, that you can watch all the live sports on the platform without having to pay anything extra for the service of live sports on the streaming service.

What we liked about Peacock

Peacock is a good streaming website that does provide some really good original content for its services, and it is also available to download on various streaming devices, so you can access it anywhere.

Plus, you are also able to live sports that are available on NBC Sports, and that is a really big deal because there are not a lot of streaming services present that also stream live sports without any additional costs.

What we didn’t like about Peacock

Peacock is a streaming service that is currently not available to use worldwide, and it is in a select few countires, such as the US and some European countries.

So, the majority of the people aren’t able to use the services of Peacock, and that can be pretty annoying for a lot of people.

Why did we choose Peacock as an Optus Sport alternative?

Peacock does offer live sports as a part of its streaming service, and the overall cost of this streaming service is quite cheaper compared to the overall price of Optus Sport, so that is definitely an advantage.

Plus, the overall streaming service also offers you with a list of other entertaining content, so it can be a great all in one package.

Review and rating of Peacock

Peacock is also a streaming service about which I have mentioned a couple of times and the overall service does provide users with a good list of content.

If you are in the region where the service is available then you should try it out. I will rate Peacock 3.5/5 stars.

Our recommendations on the best Optus Sport alternative?

Optus Sports is a streaming website that has been criticized constantly by a lot of its customers for many different reasons, and I also don’t see the reason why it has to be this expensive as it already is.

It is a great example of always listening to what the audience has in demand, and following that, rather than doing your own thing and being power and money hungry with your product.

The above six mentioned alternatives do offer a different amount of content for a different targeted audience, so you have to see for yourself which one you think is the best alternative for you and choose that.

If you were to ask for my opinion, then I would choose ESPN Plus as the alternative to Optus Sports.

Why did we choose ESPN Plus as the best Optus Sport alternative?

The reason why I chose ESPN Plus as the best Optus Sport alternative is simply that it offers everything that Optus has to offer, but the content that ESPN Plus has to offer is much better in all ways.

ESPN Plus is cheaper when compared to Optus Sport; you also get a lot more Original content on its website, it is not geo-locked, and the overall performance and service of ESPN Plus are simply better than Optus.

The articles that ESPN Plus is also very well detailed and written by trained professionals. It is a streaming service that is dedicated to only sports fans and nothing more.

But, as always, these were my thoughts and my suggestions for alternatives to Optus Sport. What about you? Do you agree with my choice?

Or do you know some better alternatives to Optus Sports that offer its content but for free or at a lower price point than ESPN Plus? Do let us know in the comments down below!
