What is Nites TV?
NItes TV is/was an application that would allow you to stream movies and tv shows for free on any of your devices. It had an app and website where people could come and watch torrent movies.
Nites TV has recently shut down due to some legal issues, and because of this, many people are searching for some alternatives to it where they can watch their favourite movies and tv shows for free.
Here are some more reasons as to why you should find some other alternatives to Nites TV.

Reason 1 – No longer in service
As mentioned above, Nites TV has recently gone out of service and isn’t showing any signs of coming back online. There have been several legal, because of which this situation has arrived.
This is an important part because torrenting movies is an illegal acticity, and they have received their share of punishment of sorts for streaming and providing these films and shows in the first place.
Reason 2 – Poor streaming resolution
Nites TV’s streams usually were of poor quality, and they would buffer a lot many times, because of which many people weren’t able to fully enjoy the content they were watching on their website.
It had been facing this issue for some time now, and the streams used to jump a lot in terms of quality which pissed a lot of people and made them search for some other alternatives to it.
Reason 3 – Many pop-up ads
Since it was a free website, obviously, it had to run and make money in some way or form, and it did so by running a lot of pop-up ads on its website. Now, for some people, Pop-up ads aren’t a big problem.
It is something one expects to see if they are on a free website, but when there are way too many of them, then it starts to bother people, and the same was the case with Nites Tv.

It is a pretty simple and effective way to have your entertainment sorted out, and many people do like it for what it is worth.
What we liked about Kodi
Kodi as an application is a great app to have around for the services that it has to offer. You can get as many plugins as you like, and they will provide you with almost all the content that you would be getting on Nites TV as well!
It has an application for all the devices, so you just simply have to download their app from their website and then you can continue watching the games or shows or movies that you want to see for free!
What we didn’t like about Kodi
Kodi is not for everybody. It has a number of add-ons and plugins to install, and each plug-in has something different to offer.
Installing Kodi on any of your devices and then figuring out the plugins is quite a hassle and something that has been called out several times for Kodi.
And plus, even though you will have a number of plugins to install, you still won’t be able to watch everything on it as they are all illegally streaming it to your device.
Why did we choose Kodi as a Nites TV alternative?
Kodi has a lot of functionality that you simply didn’t have on Nites TV. You can basically watch your favourite movie or tv show on any of your devices because of it.
It also has a great benefit offer for people who are software developers and would develop a plugin for them or their software; Kodi would pay you for that.
For things like these, I chose to put Kodi on this list.
Review and rating of Kodi
Kodi is a software that many use but not a lot of people know about. It’s a proper functioning foundation that runs purely on donations and works pretty well because of it.
It is a software that you can try out and see for yourself if it works or not because it really depends on how much you use it and how well do you use it. So it is very subjective in that matter.
For those reasons and more, I would be rating Kodi 3.5/5 stars.
Pluto TV
Now, if you aren’t into watching content that is illegally streamed to you, then maybe Pluto TV would be a nice Nites TV alternate for you.
Pluto TV is a free-to-stream website owned and operated by the people of Viacom 18. Viacom 18 is a proper media-entertainment company that streams and produces feature-length movies and shows, and more.
Pluto TV, on the other hand, is a free-functioning live-tv streaming service that will allow you to watch some of the latest content for free.
What we liked about Pluto TV
Pluto TV is a great application where you will find live tv shows and some on-demand shows from Pluto. It has a great user interface and has up to 100+ live channels for you to watch for free.
And you also get a lot of things that you would usually be paying to get on your streaming service. Pluto gives you an experience of a paid live tv subscription for which you have to pay nothing.
You also don’t have to create an account or sign in to watch their content; there is no catch when it comes to Pluto.
What we didn’t like about Pluto TV
Pluto TV’s content is geo-locked, meaning that if you are staying anywhere outside of the US, Canada, Austria, Switzerland or Switzerland, you won’t be able to see or check out their content.
It also lacks some features like a search bar, which is usually quite a handy feature when it comes to searching for content that you would normally like to see on your tv.
And if you are a live sports lover or like to watch live news, then you would be a bit disappointed because Pluto TV doesn’t have the rights to stream any of those, but it does stream their other curated content.
Why did we choose Pluto TV as a free Nites TV alternative?
Pluto TV checks most of the boxes that I had listed for the reasons why you should look for Nites TV alternatives.
It is a service that is active and running; it has some really great quality of streams and content to offer for free and has no pop-up ads on its website or application.
Sure, you would be seeing some commercials here and there, but they won’t be as annoying as they were on Nites TV.
Review and rating of Pluto TV
Pluto TV has been reviewed several times here at GeekyMint, and we have always liked it for what it has to offer. It’s genuinely free and has no hidden costs whatsoever.
There are some compromises here and there, but nothing that could really break the deal for you because, frankly speaking, it is a pretty good deal, and you should definitely check it out!
I would be rating Pluto TV 3.5/5 stars.
Tubi TV
Another free-to-use streaming service that would let you watch some tv shows and movies is Tubi TV. It is one of the popular streaming that lets its users play and stream movies from different devices.
It certainly has a fan base, and I would be lying if I said that I am part of the fan base. I personally don’t like Tubi TV so much, and I will lay down the details, but that does mean that you shouldn’t too.
What we liked about Tubi TV
Let’s start off with the good things about Tubi, and then we will talk about its negatives. The good is obviously the fact that it is free to use.
There are no hidden charges involved here, and you can watch as much as you like on Tubi. The stream qualities are also fairly good for what it has to offer; they are in full HD resolution, so the images will look nice and clear.
Tubi also doesn’t stream anything illegal. Everything you see on Tubi, Tubi has the rights to. So if you are someone who is afraid of illegally streaming content, you won’t have that fear here.
What we didn’t like about Tubi TV
The whole point of Tubi is to stream content for free to its viewers, which it does. But the content that it streams is just plain and simply awful. I mean, there are titles that you wouldn’t have ever heard about in your entire life.
You get content like: ‘Queen of the Trap House 2’, ‘PPP: Loan Gone’, ‘The Sand (The Beach Is Killer), ‘Sweet Revenge’, ‘Thor: End Of Days’, and the list goes on. You get the point, right?
Like, the content it has to offer is just B grade at best and nothing more.
And I just don’t see myself watching such movies and TV shows that are just so cheap in everything, and I am not talking about budget-wise. I am talking about the whole package.
Why did we choose Tubi TV as a free Nites TV alternative?
Look, at the end of the day, both Nites and Tubi TV are free streaming services. It is something that is the common element between both of them. Tubi also has some clear advantages over Nites.
The advantages are the convenience of watching the movies and shows from the comfort of any device, no pop-up ads, great streaming quality and media server, and more such things.
These all make Tubi a better alternative to Nites, for that matter.
Review and rating of Tubi TV
Tubi TV is a service that I may not like, but there are definitely people who love their services and continuously come back to watch more of their content.
It ranked nearly 2.8 billion watch hours in 2020 alone, which is a huge number for any streaming site! So, clearly, it has a big audience base. Maybe you can also be one of those people.
That’s why I would still recommend you to check Tubi TV out and see for yourself if you like it or not, but for me personally, I would rate Tubi TV 2.5/5 stars.

Crackle
Crackle is also a free tv streaming service that you can try out and see if you like it or not. Crackle is owned by Sony, so you can expect a lot of goodies on their content library as well.
Crackle does have some ups and downs, just like any free streaming service, or any service for that matter, because nothing is perfect, and neither is Crackle. So, let’s discuss some of the good and bad of Crackle.
What we liked about Crackle
Crackle is a service that has some positives to it, so let’s start off with that. You have great compatibility when you choose Crackle, as Crackle is available on almost all leading platforms.
It has an app for playing platforms like Firestick, Roku, Play Station, Xbox, any android and iOS device, and many more.
Crackle also allows you access to parental control over the content, a feature for which you usually have to pay. You can also customise the subtitles on Crackle as well!
What we didn’t like about Crackle
Crackle, although it has a limited number of shows and movies on it, they are still quite low when compared to other live streaming services. That can be a big letdown for people looking for new content.
It also has a lot of ads in between the programs; for example, if you are sitting down to watch a two-hour movie on it, you would have to watch at least eleven ads whose durations is about two minutes or so.
If you do the math, that is like twenty-two minutes of just ads alone; that is not pretty. And it can get annoying very quickly.
But that’s not the case with every piece of content they have; some have more ads, and some have less.
Why did we choose Crackle as a streaming platform like Nites TV?
Again, on this list, you would find all the alternatives that basically check all the reasons why you should look for other apps than Nites TV. Crackle has limited, but still, it has better content compared to something like Tubi TV.
It has some great little features such as parental control and editing subtitles that are something you usually see on paid platforms and definitely not in Nites TV, for that matter!

Crackle is an application that you would have to try out and see for yourself if you like it or not.
One easy way to decide is that you can go on their website and browse through their content and see for yourself if it is something that you would like to see or not.
If the content library is something that you think you would enjoy watching, then there’s your answer, buddy! I would be rating Crackle 3.5/5 stars.
BBC iPlayer
BBC iPlayer is also a free streaming service that you would like to use, and I also very recently found out about it, and it really blew my mind for what it has to offer and for the price you have to pay for it.
Over at the iPlayer, you basically get a whole lot of things that BBC has to offer, and that includes everything from movies, shows, podcasts, interviews, live tv, and so much more.
So it’s a pretty great deal if you think about it!
What we liked about BBC iPlayer
BBC iPlayer has a lot of good things to offer; first off, its content! The content that iPlayer has to offer is basically what BBC has to offer, and BBC is a very good production when it comes to producing content.
You also get live tv and sports, which is something that is lacking in almost all of the alternatives that I have named above.
This is a rare advantage that BBC has since it is a leading producing platform and has been for many decades now.
What we didn’t like about BBC iPlayer
The only major disadvantage I found out about BBC iPlayer is the fact that it is only available in the UK and some other parts of the EU, and nowhere else.
For the content it has to offer, it seems to be targeting only the demographics that it knows will surely watch it for free.
This is a bummer as there are a number of people across the globe who are big fans of the BBC and would love to watch their content on the iPlayer as well.
Either way, it is free, so they might as well unlock it to other countries as well!
Why did we choose BBC iPlayer as a paid Nites TV replacement?
BBC iPlayer has a great content library that has a lot to offer and is something that you could say the same about Nites as well.
It is free of cost, has compatibility like all other applications on this list, and it streams in really good quality. Their content is also really good when compared to the rest free streaming services.
You also get to watch the latest episodes on iPlayer just after they air on the BBC channel, which is also a really cool benefit to have.
Review and rating of BBC iPlayer
BBC iPlayer is a great value-for-money application, where money is basically $0 dollars you would be paying if you are in the UK.
If not, then you would have to choose something like a VPN to use this application, and VPNs aren’t cheap, for that matter.
Either way, it is a website that you should surely check out, and for that reason, I would be rating BBC iPlayer 4/5 stars.
Plex
Last but certainly not least, we have Plex. Now you may be thinking, how is Plex on this list when we are only discussing about free streaming applications and sites? Well, Plex is free as well!
Plex is also a media server, something like Kodi, where basically anything you have on your laptop or desktop, you are able to stream it across other platforms as well and also watch some free content of Plex.
What we liked about Plex
I have been a Plex user for a while now, and I have really come to love the service it provides. First of all, Plex is totally free to use. They have a paid plan as well, but you wouldn’t be needing it at all.
It is a great media player that has a lot of settings that you don’t have in any application, for that matter. You can customise it as per your own liking, and all of this comes for free.
Even uploading your content and booting Plex is easy compared to something like Kodi, where the installation process can take a while and can confuse people as well.
And to top it all off, Plex also offers you a number of shows and movies that you can very easily watch for free on their app or website.
What we didn’t like about Plex
Plex is not a fully content streaming service like the other sites and apps on this list. Don’t get me wrong, it has free content to access, and they are pretty good as well. But that is not the main selling feature of Plex.
The main selling feature of Plex is that you become your own content provider, and you stream the content that you have on your laptop or desktop and would like to watch it like any other streaming service.
That is the only major disadvantage I feel that Plex has; other than that, it is a downright perfect app. Well, not perfect, but pretty good!
Why did we choose Plex?
I haven’t seen a lot of people talking or even using Plex, for that matter. It has some of the merits that Nites Tv has, but it has a lot of new and different features that Nites never had.
This is why I chose to write about it and thought that it could actually be a pretty great alternative to Nites because it has something totally different and unique to offer that neither Nites nor the other five alternatives have to offer.
Review and rating of Plex
I review and rate any application or website based on the topic and context about which it is about. And Plex is unique in that matter because, as per the context, it doesn’t exactly fit that well.
But then again, it is something of a different take on what Nites Tv was, and Nites Tv’s alternatives could be.
It’s a different take, and since this is one of those rare occasions where I have actually tried and tested the product I am reviewing, I would be rating Plex 3.5/5 stars.
The CW
The CW is a surprising one because it allows users to watch all of their tv shows on its application for free with entire full-length episodes and no edited versions of the episodes, as well.
Of course, you have to see the ads in between the episodes, so that is the price you have to pay, but that is basically something that you have to do on all the alternatives present in this list.
What we liked about The CW
As I mentioned above, the great thing about The CW is the fact that you are able to watch all of its shows for free, along with the latest episodes of the shows, as soon as they are broadcasted live.
That is really quite useful for a lot of people who love CW shows, and don’t want to buy the cable tv connection to watch the shows live. The latest episodes come on the app 2-3 hrs after the episode has been live broadcasted.
What we didn’t like about The CW
There isn’t a lot to dislike about The CW app because of the overall list of features that are available on it, and the list of episodes, as well.
That being said, there are some cons to it, as well. For example, you can only watch CW shows on it, and nothing else. So if you are not a fan of the channel, then this app might not be for you.
The second problem, and this is a bigger one, is the fact that the application is only available in the US to use, and nowhere else, and that is quite a bummer.
Why did we choose The CW as a Nites TV competitor?
Nites TV is a simple website that offers you to watch movies and tv shows illegally. The CW app, on the other hand, provides you with all of the episodes and shows that is produced by them for free and legally, also.
That is one of the big reasons, then you can also download its app on your laptop or your phone, and enjoy the show with convenience, that is not something you can say about Nites TV.

The CW app is made for the fans of this channel, and if you are one of them, then there is no better option for you to try out, other than this application.
You can easily watch the shows for free, and don’t have to worry about anything, as long as you are okay with watching a couple of the same ads in between the show. I will rate The CW app 4/5 stars.
Our recommendations on the best Nites TV alternative?
Nites TV is an app that I had never heard about until now. From the research that I have done about it, it seems to be like a great website that a lot of people used to come to, to watch free movies.
But nowadays, people want more than that; they want convenience plus great content because there is no shortage of content now. Studios everywhere are just flowing in cash to produce Originals.
The above six websites and applications do allow you to watch good content, for free, from the convenience that a common audience member has to expect from their entertainment.
They all serve different purposes for different people, and there is no denying that. You have to see for yourself which one is the service that you would want to watch and then figure out from it.
But if you were to ask me which service I would personally choose, I think I would have to go with BBC iPlayer and Pluto TV. Let me explain why.
Why did we choose BBC iPlayer and Pluto TV as the best Nites TV alternative?
Let’s start off with BBC iPlayer. BBC iPlayer is such a great website because the content on it is just amazing for the price that you are willing to pay. You have such great shows and movies on it.
You also get live news and sports, which is a rare thing for free live tv streaming services.
Pluto TV, on the other hand, is full of live tv shows and content. With over 100+ live channels, you can basically watch anything that you would want to watch for free.
And along with that, it has a great user interface and streaming quality as well.
