Video editing softwares are really powerful creative tools that allow its users to create the best possible version of that video. The more expensive the software, the better the features.

Types of Video editing software

There are around three different types of video editing software that are available in the market right now; let’s go through all of them.

Online Software

Online editing softwares, as you can tell by its name, are the video softwares that are ready to use via your web browser itself. They are dedicated sites that have the basic video editing features and effects that you would need.

The great thing about such sites is that you don’t need to have specific hardware requirements to run these sites. You simply need a stable internet connection, and you are good to go.

Usually, with some popular and high-end video editing softwares, you need the desired set of hardware requirements, only after which you are able to run those softwares on your computing device.

Mobile editing apps

These have started to come up recently only, thanks to the advancement in the chipset of our smartphones. Mobile video editing apps are basically apps that you can download from popular stores like Google Play Store and App Store.

These apps are great for editing quick videos on your phone and share those videos quickly from the app itself to various social media sites of your liking.

Mobile editing apps also offer quite a lot of features and effects, and they are designed in such a way that allows users to use the application comfortably from the screens of the smartphones themselves.

Computer editing software

Computer editing software has been around for quite some time now, and this editing software is the most famous and popular way of editing videos. There are various types of editing software are available right now.

All of them have varied prices and varied sets of effects and features. You can choose this software based on the level of your expertise in this area.

Computer editing software is used for many different types of videos, and you can see their work on your YouTube channel or in the movies that you see in your movie halls.

Different components of a Video editing software

Let’s now discuss some of the various components that you would see on a video editing software, and these components will be the same regardless of which type of video editing software you use.

Timeline

The timeline is the place where all the main video editing takes place. Usually, you would see two different timelines, one would be for the video, and the other would be for the audio.

You can adjust various different audio settings and video settings on their respective timelines. In some video editing softwares, you are restricted to only two video timelines, but others provide over hundred video timeline options.

The basic interface that you will notice with this timeline would be three partitions above the timeline.

One partition would represent your clips in the library, the other partition would show the video of the particular clip, and the third partition would be the preview of how your final video is turning out in the timeline.

Library

If you had to guess what the library in a video editing software would be, what would you guess? Well, the answer is pretty simple. It is an actual library of all your clips that you have imported onto the software.

This is the first partition that I mentioned above, in terms of the basic UI that most video editing softwares have for their timeline. Through the library, you can access your different video and audio clips.

It is a great tool to have because you can always revert back to your original clips without having to see the clips on the timeline, and you can always drag and drop the clips from the library directly to the timeline.

Features and Effects

All the video editing softwares, regardless of their price and type, will have dedicated sets of features and effects listed on them. Different softwares name their features and effects categories differently.

Some of them simply name them ‘Features and Effects’, while others also name them ‘VFX’; regardless of their name, you can find them on the top of the UI of the software.

Features and effects help you to make your video look a lot more creative; you can adjust the different colours of your video, add templates, stickers, titles, crop video clips, adjust audio settings, etc.

Exporting files

Once you are done editing your video and are satisfied with how it has turned out, then comes the important part, i.e. exporting your video. Thanks to the time that we are living in, there are many different file types available, all helping in the quality of the video.

Almost all the video editing softwares would let you export your videos at 720p or 1080p with 30fps and 60fps settings, but those are not the only files in which videos are consumed these days.

Some popular and expensive software allows you to export videos up to 8K resolution and in other different mediums too. So you have to decide which format you want to see for your work and export it accordingly.

Hardware Requirements for Video editing software

As I had mentioned above, there are certain video editing software that require specific hardware requirements to run smoothly on computing devices, but these requirements are only applicable to PCs and Apple Mac devices.

If you are using an online editing software, you don’t have to worry about any hardware requirements; you simply need a good internet connection to run the site.

The same can be said for mobile editing software; most editing software on mobiles run smoothly regardless of the chipset on the smartphone.

However, some video editing software does require an Android version 4.0 or higher and an IOS version 11.0 or higher.

For video editing software, if you are using software that is priced at the lower end, then it can run on all computing devices and software like Windows Vista, Windows 7, etc.
