Chainsaw Man Season 2: Anime Release Date, Total Episodes, Trailer

In the Fall of 2022, anime fans were greeted by MAPPA Studio’s latest offering- Chainsaw Man. This bloody and brutal anime series had some strong subversive themes and clever tricks up its sleeve. It earned rave reviews for its wacky characters, compelling world-building and variety of outro theme songs.

By the time its intense finale rolled around, Chainsaw Man had accumulated a large and devoted fan base eagerly waiting for its second season. But is Chainsaw Man season 2 confirmed? How many total episodes will Chainsaw Man season 2 have? Is the Chainsaw Man season 2 trailer out?

These are some of the questions going through the minds of fans of the series. Read on to find the answer to all these queries about Chainsaw Man and more.

Is Chainsaw Man Season 2 Coming?

There has been no official announcement till now of Chainsaw Man’s season 2. However, the series is unlikely to be cancelled and various sources indicate that the next season and a movie are in the works and might release in 2024.

Fans were hoping that the next season might come out in 2023 but MAPPA Studios has been busy with the second season of Vinland Saga and Jujutsu Kaisen and the popular Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters along with behind-the-scenes drama and reshuffles.

This has likely pushed back the release of season 2 of Chainsaw Man which is otherwise a successful anime series.

Chainsaw Man Season 2 Plot: What will Happen Next?

Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga of the same name, Chainsaw Man is the story of a teenager Denji who dies at the hands of the zombie devil only to fuse with Pochita who is a devil dog to become Chainsaw Man.

He starts working for the Public Safety Devil Hunters as his contract with Pochita grants him the ability to transform parts of his body into chainsaws. The majority of season 1 focused on Denji’s journey to become a Devil Hunter alongside Power, Aki, Himeno and Kobeni.

Season 1 ended with the team triumphing over Katana Man and the Snake Devil, getting closer than ever to finding the Gun Devil. A mysterious woman was also introduced who is expected to play a pivotal role in the next season.

This season adapted the first 38 chapters of the manga and covered about 40% of its first part. It was bizarre, bloody, chaotic and subversive with some truly shocking twists and weird characters.

Chainsaw Man season 2 is expected to ramp up the stakes Denji and the team encounter new friends and foes. There is too much material for a 12-episode series and the second season will most probably cover the Bomb Girl arc(chapters 40-52) and the International Assassin arc(chapters 53-70).

Chainsaw Man Characters: Who Will Return?

In Chainsaw Man season 2, key characters like Denji, Makima, Power and Aki will, of course, return. Thus, we can expect that the voice actors from season 1 would reprise their roles in the sequel and the movie as well.

You can expect to see the following voice actors come back for Chainsaw Man season 2:

  • Kikunosuke Toya and Ryan Colt Levy for Denji
  • Shiori Izawa and Lindsay Seidel for Pochita
  • Tomori Kusunoki and Suzie Yeung for Makima
  • Shogo Sakata and Reagan Murdock for Aki Hayakawa
  • Fairouz Ai and Sarah Wiedenheft for Power
  • Karin Takahashi and Bryn Apprill for Kobeni
  • Kenjiro Tsuda and Jason Douglas for Kishibe
  • Taku Yashiro and Jarrod Greene for Hirokazu Arai

Mariya Ise and Katelyn Barr are unlikely to return due to Himeno’s death in season 1 unless the makers decide to show flashbacks of her. The same is true for Yo Taichi and Emi Lo who voiced Akane.

Chainsaw Man Season 2 Watch Order

Chainsaw Man season 1 covers the first 38 chapters of the manga. The correct order to watch them is:

Introduction Arc

Episodes 1-2 cover the first four chapters of the manga and introduce the protagonist Denji and the devil dog Pochita. Denji is an impoverished youth doing all sorts of odd jobs to pay off his deceased father’s debt to the yakuza. In one of his jobs, he is tricked by the yakuza boss and killed by the Zombie Devil.

Pochita fuses with Denji’s dead body to save his life. He transforms into Chainsaw Man upon his revival with Pochita becoming his heart.

Makima takes Denji under her wing and he meets other members of his Devil Hunting Squad like Power and Aki Hayakawa.

Bat Devil Arc

With the introductions out of the way, the anime moves to face-offs between devils and the Public Safety Devil Hunters. This arc covers chapters 5-12 of the manga and lasts between episodes 2-5 in the series. Denji teams up with Power to patrol the city and she reveals to him that a Devil has kidnapped her cat.

He strikes a deal with her to save her cat if she lets him fondle her chest in return. Power, however, presents him to the Bat Devil as an offering to get her cat back but the Devil ends up eating both her and her cat. Denji transforms into Chainsaw Man and defeats the Bat Devil but his girlfriend, a Leech Devil, appears and attacks him.

Aki arrives in the nick of time and saves Denji’s life but the latter covers for Power who is later sent to live with the duo by Makima.

Denji has an intimate discussion with Makima who uses the opportunity to ask him to kill the Gun Devil for her and promises to grant him a wish in return.

Eternity Devil Arc

Episodes 5-7 of the anime cover the Eternity Devil arc and revolves around a six-person team from Makima’s squad being sent to the Morin Hotel to kill the Eternity Devil. The Devil traps the group in an endless loop on the hotel’s eighth floor as soon as they arrive.

The group realizes that the Devil is feeding on their fear and growing larger as a result. The Eternity Devil asks for Denji as an offering to allow the others to leave. The latter decides to sacrifice himself and jumps into the void where he fights the Eternity Devil like a maniac and also drinks his blood.

Denji finally manages to kill the Devil after three days of nonstop fighting with Himeno’s help.

Katana Man Arc

The penultimate episodes of Chainsaw Man season 1 cover the Katana Man arc. Here, the entire Division 4 is attacked by guns and most human members end up being killed. Denji, Power and Himeno are shot by the Katana Man in a restaurant while Aki summons his Fox Devil to fight him.

The Fox Devil eats the Katana Man but the latter slices his way out. Aki manages to kill him with the help of the Escape Devil but a woman named Sawatari arrives and revives the Katana Man. Himeno gives up her life so that the Ghost Devil can fight in her place.

Denji transforms into Chainsaw Man to fight the villains but the situation looks hopeless as his body is sliced off in half. Kobeni arrives at the scene and manages to slice off Katana Man’s arm while Makima brings together a new 4th Division consisting of mainly hybrids and led by Kishibe.

The arc and the season concluded with Denji defeating the Katana Man and Sawatari committing suicide after being caught by Kobeni.
