No One Will Save You (2023)
Director: Brian Duffield
Stars: Kaitlyn Dever
Genre: Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Run Time: 1h 33m
No One Will Save You is a Hulu Original film that recently got released on its platform. This movie is a thriller that does not have a lot of dialogues in it.
This film stars Kaitlyn Dever who is a talented writer who mostly stays in her home, when one day when extraterrestrials creatures creep upon her childhood home one night.
Now, it is up to Brynn to run away from the creatures and this film is refreshingly quite fun with a fairly short run time.
How to Blow Up a Pipeline (2023)
Director: Daniel Goldhaber
Stars: Lukas Gage, Marcus Scribner, Kristine Forseth
Genre: Drama, Thriller
Run Time: 1h 40m
With Climate Change being the main topic of interest for many people as we are seeing its real-time effects in our actual lives, How to Blow Up a Pipeline is a film that discusses just that in an effort to make it a thriller, as well.
The basic story of the film follows a group of teenagers who group together in order to break a pipeline from an oil company which is threatening the everyday lives of the people.
How To Blow Up a Pipeline is a well-received from both the critics and even audience as the film tells the audience how disruptive the oil industry is for the overall climate and how to tell a story that doesn’t feel too pretentious.
Infinity Pool (2023)
Director: Brandon Cronenberg
Stars: Alexander Skarsgård, Cleopatra Coleman, Mia Goth
Genre: Sci-Fi, Mystery, Thriller, Horror
Run Time: 1h 58m
If you are someone who loves to watch quite a lot of violence and gore in your films, such as the Final Destination series, then you would find a lot to love about Infinity Pool because it is a hyper-violent and disturbing horror film.
The story of Infinity Pool follows a couple who meet with an unfortunate accident and have to stay in their resort where they find that things are not at all how it seems and it features all sorts of crime as one can expect.
This film is not for everyone.
The Meg (2018)
Genre: Sci-Fi, Action
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Cast: Jason Statham, Bingbing Li, Rainn Wilson
Run Time: 1 hr 53 min
With The Meg 2 playing in theaters right now, it is better to catch up with its best to catch up with the first outing of this franchise.
Infinity Pool wasn’t a film for everyone, so is The Meg for all the right reasons. The Meg is a ridiculous film that is about Jason Statham’s character trying to stop a 65 feet ancient shark from under the sea bed.
It is a film that you are not supposed to take seriously at all, and once you have accepted that, you will have a good time watching the sheer randomness that is on display.
Triangle of Sadness (2022)
Director: Ruben Östlund
Stars: Woody Harrelson, Harry Dickinson, Dolly de Leon, Charlbi Dean
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Run Time: 2h 27m
Triangle of Sadness is a 2023 Best Picture Nominee for this year’s Oscars and the film is set in a cruise ship filled with the richest group of people in the world.
One night, due to extreme weather conditions, the cruise goes adrift and its surviving members are stuck on an island as they all try to figure out how to get out of the Island.
Triangle of Sadness takes a hit at the elitist and pokes fun at them, while also having some unanswered moments in the film. This wasn’t my favourite film from this year’s Oscar Nominee, but it is still worth watching.
Bruiser (2023)
Director: Miles Warren
Stars: Jalyn Hall, Shamier Anderson, Trevante Rhodes
Genre: Drama
Run Time: 1h 37m
Bruiser is also a Hulu original film that was released on its platform and it shows the story of a boy and his strict but caring father and with a drifter.
When one day the 14-year old boy discovers the true identity of the drifter, he is in a dilemma of the conflict between the two men. Bruiser is a coming of age film that focuses mostly on Drama and dialogues in its film.
You can catch it on Hulu.
Fire of Love (2022)
Director: Sara Dosa
Stars: Maurice Krafft, Katia Krafft
Genre: Documentary
Run Time: 1hr 34m
Fire of Love is a documentary that was also nominated as the Best Documentary for this year’s Oscars and it tells the story of two volcanologists, Maurice Krafft and Katia Krafft, who fall in love with one another because of their love for volcanoes and everything about them.
This documentary is filled with a lot of real moments, and it is compiled from all the footage collected by the Kraffts over their lifetime.
The documentary is really heartbreaking, and it is unlike any other documentaries that you usually see.
The Old Way (2023)
Director: Brett Donowho
Cast: Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard and Nicolas Cage
Genre: Western
Run Time: 1 hr 35 min
The Old Way is a Western film and it is like a classic Western film that you don’t often see these days and it stars Nicolas Cage as the main lead.
The Old Way follows a classic Western film that is fueled by revenge when a retired gunslinger returns back with his daughter in order to take revenge for his murdered wife.
It is a classic film that has everything you might expect and it is also Nicolas Cage’s first Western film, as well.
Prey (2022)
Director: Dan Trachtenberg
Genre: Action Sci-Fi
Cast: Dakota Beavers, Mohammad Albaaj, Amber Midthunder,Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope, Michelle Trush, and Dane DiLiegro
Run Time: 1 hr 40 min
Prey is a part of the Predators franchise that is set in 1719, so it is really taking things back to basics when a group of indigenous people come across one Predator, who was the first one to come down on Earth.
I am not a huge fan of the Predators universe but the fans of the franchise do consider it as one of the best in the franchise because of its simple and yet effective plot, and to that I can agree upon.
The film sees Amber Midthunders as a Comanche women who fights against the impossible to kill Predator. It is a fun ride, and even if you don’t know anything about the world of Predators you will still find a lot of enjoyment in this film.
Game Night (2018)
Directors: John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein
Cast: Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris
Run Time: 1 hr 40 min
Genre: Comedy
Comedy when one right isn’t noticeable that much as you often are laughing out loud, but when it is not done right you can very easily find yourself cringing, thankfully with Game Night that’s not the case as you are genuinely interested in it and laughing throughout the film.
From the guys who directed Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, streaming on Prime Video, Game Night tells a story of a couple and their friends as they get in a journey of saving one person, who they think is a part of a big fun game, but in reality it is all happening for real.
Game Night is a truly hilarious film that has a number of moments where you would want to pause the film just so that you can laugh properly without missing any plots of the film, and in the end it ties it up into a sweet ending, as well.
The Menu (2022)
Director: Mark Mylod
Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Fiennes, Janet McTeer
Genre: Thriller
Run Time: 1 hr 46 min
The Menu was a surprise hit last year which a lot of people thought should have gotten an Oscar nod for Best Picture, but it sadly didn’t.
Still, the film is actually pretty damn good as it shares the story of a group of people going to a remote island which houses a restaurant that is run by the famous Chef Slowik, who prepares exotic and lavish dishes for its rich customers.
However, as with every remote island, things also don’t turn out like how they are supposed to be, and things take a dangerous turn.
The Menu is not a scary film, but it does have tension-filled moments that are sprinkled with some genuinely funny scenes, as well.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
Director: Wes Anderson
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Willem Dafoe
Run Time: 1 hr 39 min
Genre: Crime, Comedy
From Writer, Director, Wes Anderson, who is known for his own distinct style of filmmaking comes in one of his biggest hits in the form of The Grand Budapest Hotel.
The film is jam-packed by the biggest stars of Hollywood and it follows the story of the Hotel concierge Monsieur Gustave H. and his brand-new lobby boy Zero Moustafa as a priceless Russian painting is stolen that must be recovered at all costs.
Gustave and Moustafa go on an adventure to get back the painting in this Crime-Drama film that is quite whimsical in its nature and actually won an Academy Award for Best Film, as well!
