Reason 2 – Buggy Apps
The great thing about Book Walker is that it does have a number of different applications that are available for Windows, macOS, Android and even iOS devices, as well. So you can easily download them and read from there.
However, the problem with that is that the overall app functionality is actually a bit buggy and many users have reported the apps to stop working while they are in the middle of reading a manga, light novel, or even listening to an audiobook.
So, while it is great that there is an app for Book Walker, it gets a little annoying when you figure out that it doesn’t work properly.
Reason 3 – Not a great UI
Another reason why you should look for alternatives to Book Walker is that the overall UI of the website and its application isn’t all that great.
It works decently; you are able to scroll through the library of content that it has on its website; however, when you have other alternatives that allow users to read their mangas and light novels for free and have a better UI, then you might need to revamp things a little bit.
Otherwise, the website looks like it was made in the early to mid-2000s, and most people don’t want that when they are surfing through the net.

Manga Plus by Shueisha
Manga Plus by Shueisha is a great alternative Book Walker that you can try out because, just like Book Walker, Manga Plus is actually a website that is legally run.
It has the rights to share most of the mangas that are available on its website, and the overall user experience of Manga Plus is actually pretty great, as well.
The overall UI is pretty sleek and clean, and it also has an application that you can download from Google Play Store or Apple App Store, as well.
What we liked about Manga Plus by Shueisha
Manga Plus gets a lot of different things right, starting with its UI. When you compare the UI of Manga Plus and Book Walker, you can easily tell which one is the superior one compared to the other.
The mangas that are available on Manga Plus are mostly free to read, as well. Along with this, you also have a dedicated application that is available for both Android and iOS devices, so you can easily read from your mobile devices, as well.
What we didn’t like about Manga Plus by Shueisha
Manga Plus does have some nitpicks that I can take out from the overall website and its application, as well. For starters, unlike Book Walker, you are not able to listen to any audiobook on Manga Plus.
While it is great that you have a dedicated application available for mobile devices, but they are not all that great since a lot of people have complained about the fact that it gets a little annoying with the number of bugs that are on it.
Why did we choose Manga Plus by Shueisha as a Book Walker alternative?
Manga Plus and Book Walker do have a lot of commonalities; they both are websites where you can read mangas legally, they both have an application for different viewing devices, and they both offer tons of different mangas.
However, Manga Plus offers a lot more to its users by simply providing most of the mangas available for free and it also offers a vastly superior UI compared that to what you get on Book Walker.

Manga Plus is a pretty great website where you are able to read a number of different mangas for free and legally, and that is a combination that you don’t often see with such websites, as well.
The overall UI of the website is pretty great and easy to use, and the website also doesn’t take a lot of time when it comes to loading, as well.
For those reasons and more, I will rate Manga Plus 4/5 stars.
Manga reader.to
Manga reader is a new website that allows users to read mangas on its website for free. However, unlike Manga Plus, the mangas that are available on Manga reader are actually not legally available.
So, you are in a bit of a grey area when you are using this website; however, there are many great things about this website when it comes to reading mangas online, and because of that, I have mentioned it on this list.
What we liked about Manga reader.to
There are a number of different things to like about Manga reader, for starters, the overall website of Manga Reader is actually pretty great! The UI of the website is pretty easy to use, and it looks pretty clean, as well.
Manga Reader is also a website that is run on donations, so you shouldn’t expect to see on any ads on the website while you are using the website, and that is also something that is pretty great about it.
Along with all this, the website offers you all the mangas and everything available on it for free of cost; you don’t have to spend anything to use the service!
What we didn’t like about Manga reader.to
Manga Reader is a website that is illegally run. It does not have the rights to share any of the mangas that are available on it.
And while it is offering its users a great number of features, such as no ads, great UI, free mangas, etc. It is gonna have to face some time with the authorities who could charge the website owners for copyright infringement!
So, it is a great website, but it does have this one big flaw about it, as well!
Why did we choose Manga reader.to as a Book Walker alternative?
Manga Reader offers a lot that you don’t get on Book Walker’s website. The overall UI and UX of Manga Reader is pretty great and simple to use.
You get to read all the mangas that are available on it for free of cost, you don’t have to go through any ads or pop-up ads while you are using this website.
There is a lot to love about this website, and it does hold quite a strong competition against websites like Book Walker.
Review and rating of Manga reader.to
Manga Reader has a lot going for it, a free website to read mangas, great UI, no ads, no geo-restrictions, a great list of genres of mangas, and a whole lot more to it, as well.
It is clearly able to do quite a lot when it comes to providing for its users. However, it is not a legal website, and neither it claims to be one, as well.
When you first go on to its website, you will see a big questionnaire where the website owners try to explain why they consider themselves as the best manga-reading website, and they didn’t once claim to be legal.
That could be an issue later on when the websites start to track a lot of attention from the people and from the authorities, as well.
However, for now, the website works great in delivering free mangas to all of its users, and I will rate it 4/5 stars.
Manganelo
Manganelo is also of the many websites available online that allow users to read manga online for free, which it doesn’t have the rights to share. However, that’s not the main point of Manganelo.
The main attractive point of Manganelo is the fact that you are able to join a community of people who are like-minded and share their interests and thoughts on this website, as well.
What we liked about Manganelo
Manganelo is a website that thrives on its community of people, so you are easily able to chat with like-minded people and share your own thoughts on a particular manga.
However, that’s not all what you can do on Manganelo, you are easily able to publish your own manga on Managnelo and share it among the community members and even get their responses back about your work.
Plus, you are able to read all the mangas for free on the website, as well.
What we didn’t like about Manganelo
Manganelo faces similar issues that most websites like Manganelo do, you would see a number of different pop-up ads on the website which can be pretty annoying for anyone.
Plus, the website works in the grey area of legality and there can be a time where the domain has to be changed so that the owners of the website can continue working.
Along with all of this, compared to something like Mangareader.to, the UI of Manganelo is not that great.

Why did we choose Manganelo as a Book Walker alternative?
Book Walker and Manganelo have only one thing in common, and that is the fact that you are able to read mangas on both the websites, with Managnelo all the mangas are free to read.
That is what most casual manga-readers are looking for, and it also has a small community of people to interact to, which is not available on Book Walker, so its a win-win situation for most people who use the website.
Review and rating of Manganelo
Manganelo is a good alternative to Book Walker; you are able to talk to like-minded people, share your own work with them and read mangas for free; for a lot of casual manga fans, that is good enough.
However, it does have pop-up ads, its UI is a little old, and the website does not have any rights to share those Mangas on its website.
For those reasons and more, I will rate Manganelo 3/5 stars.
Mangaupdates
Mangaupdates is also a similar option to Manganelo, where you are greeted by a community of people who discuss everything related to Mangas and the world of mangas, so you can actually get a lot of news about it on this website, as well.
Along with all that, you have your usual, which is that you are able to read all the mangas that are available on it for free!
What we liked about Mangaupdates
Mangaupdates is a simple manga-reading website, and for many, that’s enough. You are able to read all the mangas that are available in different genres on the website for free.
You are also able to get a lot of news that is happening in the world of Mangas, so you are up to date with everything and there aren’t many websites that provide you with manga-news and free mangas, so that’s an advantage.
What we didn’t like about Mangaupdates
Mangaupdates also has the list of cons that you have with such websites; they are not legally run, so they can run into issues, you know the story.
Plus, the overall UI of Mangaupdates isn’t all that great, and you are also only limited to reading mangas and no light novels, which you do get on Book Walker.
Plus, the website also has a ton of pop-up ads on it, and they can be really annoying for anyone.
Why did we choose Mangaupdates as a Book Walker alternative?
Mangaupdates and Book Walker are targeted at different groups of people If you are an avid manga fan and are willing to spend $5 – $10 dollars on each manga issue that you like, then Book Walker is the website for you.
However, if you are new to the manga game and are a casual user and want to keep up to date with all that is happening in the world of Mangas, then mangaupdates is for you.
Review and rating of Mangaupdates
Mangaupdates and Manganelo are quite similar, and that is true for all such websites that allow users to read mangas for free on their websites.
They more or less have the same set of pros and cons, and that is true for Mangaupdates, as well. You get to read free mangas with pop-up ads on a UI that is pretty average.
If you are fine with that, then you should definitely try it out. I will rate Mangaupdates 3/5 stars.
MangaDex
MangaDex is a good alternative to Book Walker, it is a website where you are able to read mangas for free, however, the great thing about these mangas is that they are all bought.
MangaDex is also run by a community of people who purchase different mangas and they are all available to read for free on its website.
Since the community is also run on donations, you also don’t see a lot of ads on the website, as well.
What we liked about MangaDex
MangaDex has many things to like about it. First of all, it is a website that is run legally because all the mangas available on it are free and bought.
Secondly, you also have dedicated forums in the website that allow users to join and discuss with the people about certain mangas or anything like-minded.
The UI of the website is pretty great and clean, which is quite easy to use, as well. Plus, you don’t have to worry about ads, as well.
What we didn’t like about MangaDex
MangaDex does not have a lot of particular flaws about it, however, they are can be some nitpicks about it too.
Online community of people, while on paper sounds pretty perfect, in reality, there can be a little friction and since the entire website is run on the community of people, you can bet that it might end up affecting the functioning of the website, as well.
Why did we choose MangaDex as a Book Walker alternative?
MangaDex is a pretty great alternative to Book Walker as I mentioned above. The website is ad-free, you are able to read all the mangas available on it for free, and you are also a part of a community of people that is quite active.
That can’t be said about Book Walker because, while Book walker also provide free mangas to its users, they are not all free to the users, and that can be an issue for a lot of people.
Plus, the mangas available on MangaDex are all legally owned by the people, so it does not fall in the same gray area of legality as does websites like Manganelo and Mangaupdates fall into.
Review and rating of MangaDex
MangaDex is a pretty great website when it comes to reading mangas online for free and joining a website that has people with similar interests in mind and who also sponsor the entire website, as well.
You are easily able to read mangas, join and participate in different forums, and share your own thoughts on a website like this.
Plus its ad-free, and that is a major plus point, as well. I will rate MangaDex 4/5 stars.

Both Manga Plus and Manga Dex have a lot in common. So starting with Manga Plus by Shueishia. The great thing about this website is that Shueisiha is actually a manga publishing company.
So, all the mangas that you see on its websites, they are all published by them and they have the rights to share all of them on their website.
Along with this, the mangas that are available on it are all free to read, which isn’t something that you can say about the mangas and the light novels that are available on Book Walker.
Plus, the UI and UX of Manga Plus is actually pretty good when compared to Book Walker, and Manga Plus also has its own application that you can download from App Store or Play Store.
MangaDex, on the other hand, is also a website that is legally run by various people who put various different donations through which all the mangas that are available on it are free to read, so the website also falls under legal usage.
The website also has no ads on it, and that is a rare thing which you don’t often see, especially on free manga-reading websites.
There are various different forums that you can attend on it, and you can read countless different mangas on it for free of cost on a website that has a pretty nice and clean UI.
